At last, the Tesla Semi has arrived.

Elon Musk Companies

The Tesla Semi, which was initially announced by Elon Musk in 2017, has been one of the longest-delayed products in Tesla's history. However, the electric truck has finally been released, and the first customer to receive some of the 100 pre-ordered vehicles is PepsiCo.

PepsiCo, which owns one of the largest private fleets in North America, plans to use the Tesla Semis to deliver Frito-Lay products from its Modesto, California, facility up to 425 miles on a single charge, as well as delivering Pepsi from its Sacramento warehouse on 100-mile daily routes. They also plan to make 300- to 400-mile runs to other warehouses. However, Pepsi has not disclosed whether it has tested the trucks to check if they have the full 500-mile range that Elon Musk promised.

PepsiCo has been transforming the facility in collaboration with the California Air Resources Board to demonstrate the sustainability benefits of zero and near-zero emissions technologies. The Tesla Semis are the latest additions to PepsiCo's fleet of over 80,000 vehicles. Mike O'Connell, the Vice President of Supply Chain for Pepsi, noted that this project has resulted in a 91% reduction in greenhouse gas and will be used as a showcase for other PepsiCo operations to follow.
